Đardin je IN - Theater play "Grintalo"
The play “Grintalo” together with the plays “Škrtičina” (2009) and “Laživac” (2015) at the Croatian National Theatre in Šibenik completes the trilogy.
These are three comedies of character that, since human nature does not change, never lose their relevance.
“Grintalo” brings us the story of a patriarchal tyrant who continuously criticizes and belittles, or as his daughter-in-law says, “groans and insults everything dead and alive”, especially women.
This is Žjor Miovil Kinkela, a cruel and stingy merchant, the head of the family, dominant and rude towards his servants, oppressive towards his son and grandson, distrustful, and yet unusually sensitive to the world around him.
His son Paško, a man of weak character, stoically endures all his mistreatment in order not to anger his father, but his daughter-in-law, Markulina, a temperamental and determined person, does not accept the orders of his ruthless father-in-law at all and behind his back, with the help of other female characters, removes all obstacles to the desired goal.
The comedy's plot was adapted and reworked to be set in Šibenik, this time at the end of the 19th century. The characters' names were changed and they were given their original Šibenik names. All characters' characters were strengthened in character and given stronger and more prominent traits. Although they retained their basic archetypal features, the characters of the comedy "Grintalo" became authentic people of our Dalmatian region.
