Concert - MSAQ & special guest Harry Sokal
The well-known quartet from Šibenik will join forces with renowned Austrian saxophonist Harry Sokal. The Collaboration began more than five years ago at the Murter Free Music Festival. One of the organizers is Mate Skračić, and Sokal appeared with the organist Raphael Wressnig - the rest is history. The successful collaboration continued over the years, with the saxophonist's guest appearances with M.S.A.Q.
The quartet and saxophonist prepared a program composed of vocal and instrumental jazz, blues, bossa standards with some funk or fusion numbers. The repertoire matches the music sensibility of M.S.A.Q. which will be enriched this time by the Sokal tenor saxophone of the "Coltrane" spirit, but also with a lot of blues and a sense of funk and soul.
Sokal also transferred his rich music experience to colleagues from quartet, who are honored to host a musician of his caliber. By profession, music educator and retired academic professor, he has gained experience through years of playing in the world-renowned Art Farmer quintet. He has collaborated with recognized names in the international jazz scene such as the Vienna Art Orchestra, Carla Bley Big Band, Art Blakey, Idris Muhammad, Joe Zawinul, Jean Paul Bourelly, Dave Holland, Michel Portal, Daniel Humair, Harry Pepl, Jene Jackson and Andy McKee.
