- 18.07.2023. Michaela Rabitsch & Robert Pawlik Quartet + Nina Šegović
In this special project, the Michaela Rabitsch& Robert Pawlik Quartet from Austria teams up with Croatian video artist Nina Šegović.
Michaela Rabitsch, singer and Austria’s only female top jazz trumpet player, and her ingenious partner, guitarist Robert Pawlik composed the band’s entire repertoire. Their tunes root on one hand in the melodic styles of the Jazz tradition, like Hardbop, Swing, Modern Jazz, New Orleans Second Line, and Blues, and, on the other hand, form fusions with elements of Indian, African, Latin American, or Balcan music. Their songs are inspired by their numerous tours through Europe, Asia, the Americas, and Africa, with more than 1500 concerts in 50 countries, playing in intimate Jazz clubs as well as on big stages and at international festivals – from Tokyo to Teheran, Kuala Lumpur to Yerevan, Cape Town to Delhi, Shanghai to Almaty, Hong Kong to Cracow, Havana to Moscow, Chicago to Ottawa, Penang Island to Ankara…
Nina Šegović expresses music in real-time with her videos and adds effects or visual reactions to musical tones and rhythms. Motives in her video artworks are connected to the four elements of nature – water, wind, fire, and earth, which she expresses in the form of light - and - shadow - play. The visual representation of music through manipulation of imagery, that contains movements in its essence, manifests the missing fifth element.
Vienna’s „first Jazz couple“ presents an extraordinary diversified and sophisticated musical experience with their recognizable jazz sound, spiced up with a world’s touch!
